In August, 2008, I discovered the power of blogging. My life took an unexpected detour after a breast cancer diagnosis and I figured out pretty quickly how difficult it was to keep everyone informed. I created a blog to organize information and provide a centralized location, but after one of those stuffy sounding list posts, I decided that I would dive a little, actually a lot, deeper.
I posted literally hundreds of entries, some quite dense and introspective, some not so much. There are pictures of my husband wearing my wig and my prosthesis side by side with dark ponderings about the anger and bitterness waiting just under the surface.
In the process of writing a paper for the Feminist Leadership Academy of Cincinnati, I reviewed all of those entries and realized that there might actually be some useful gems to save. I decided to close the door on that blog and start with a fresh one as my journey changed from treatment to maintenance. So here I am, working on a new blog, wanting to share what I have learned, what I have missed and what continues to grow and change inside this newly altered cocoon of a body.
Apart from all this cancer talk, I am work for Women Writing for (a) Change. I do have some writing bona fides, including magazine feature writing and columns for local papers. I have had some poetry and prose published both online and in print. You can see it on the Writing Services page.
I blog, of course, here and katie's little c holds most of the history from 2008 - 2010. It's truly difficult to shut me down (or up, as the case may be and usually is).
